review:
HEADLAMP(ACHE).
Reviewing some forthcoming headlamps which are, unforunately, certainly not designed with the caver in mind. More suitable for night joggers or for camping or for working on your car in low light and you need both your hands.
Some things to look for in avoiding the different headlamps out there (of course, if you go with the traditionally caver friendly headlamps like Princeton-Tec or Petzl, then your likelihood of running into any of these issues will be drastically (and safely) reduced).
1) Any light that has a hinge on it that's not part of the actual light itself. For example, if a headlamp has a plastic hinge that allows the light to be oriented, say, at the road while you're running. Terrific for the late night jogs. Not terrific for when you smack your headgear against a rock and the hinge snaps off and you watch your investment disappear into the abyss.
